Anthony came along to Caledonian today to deliver three workshops; Negotiation, Creativity and Innovation and Starting up your own business/enterprise. The workshops ran from 11 until 3, with a break for some well earned lunch in between. The event turned out a real success and Anthony's workshops hit the right note with those who attended. Some students stayed for all three! Around 30 people attended over the course of the workshops and we managed to collect further contacts as well as useful f…

HAPPY ENTERPRISE WEEEEEK !!!!!!!!
We kick started the week with our 'Think Outside the Box Challenge' in the Strathclyde Union on Monday night. Having scraped together 25 boxes, plastic bottles, carrier bags and post-its using various means (some questionable), me and Dawn, with the help of our chivalrous boss Tony, transported all of the above to the Union where we were expecting staggering numbers to participate in our Global Entrepreneurship Week event.
We were not disappointed. We had 55 s…

On the 29th of November we hosted our movie night, a showing of the very entertaining movie 'Cocktail'. If anyone has not seen it you really should it is a classic and if you haven't seen it for a while it is well worth watching again. It was a slow start at 5.50pm we had one person, but the room began to fill up and by 6.30pm we had around 35 students. We did a little quiz and asked viewere to spot the entrepreneurial traits in the movie and offered a prixe of a box of choc and mini champagne.…

In the beginning of October we held a stall with a dart competition at
Fresher’s Fair, handing out about a million lollies (I had 5 myself) and holding a dart competition with a High Street voucher prize. The winner scored an impressive 129 points (also impressive was my fellow student intern Tyler who scored 130 on h…

Tonight we had our second event with iCUE, an entrepreneurship society on campus. This one was an Idea Generation Workshop, led by one of the guys at SIE’s head office (Anthony Ives).
Anthony raised some interesting points, and clued us all in to some current trends in product design. Anthony’s lessons:
1. Don’t wait for your idea to be “perfect”. You’ll never get there, and while you’re busy perfecting, you’ll probably miss your market opportunity.
2. Prototype early. Your prototype need not…

And so the big hullaballoo about how One Red PaperClip can be transformed into a house has been and gone - and what have we learned? Well for one the PaperClip is a source of socially engaging people in conversations that were once daunting, and also in times unlike the 'R' word that we are currently in, one of our contestants might have
walked off, drove off in a Toyota. Alas in the 'Pre-Boom- era that we are in, his ploy feel short of winning over the Dundalk car salesmen though he gets…

It's been a pretty exciting night at Strathclyde!
Heather & I decided last week that we really had to move the launch of our Enterprise Society forward, whilst it was still fresh in minds after Fresher's Fair. So although we didn't have as much time to plan and promote the event as much as we would've liked, it turned out to be a great success!
The initial 10 people sipping on drinks around a sofa having a chat about what SIE do and why we are creating an Enterprise Society very quickly tu…
